These terms govern your use of the UbuntuPlay platform. Please read them carefully before registering or using any part of our service.
By registering a school, creating an account, downloading the Classroom Server, purchasing a licence, subscribing to a family plan, or otherwise accessing or using any part of the UbuntuPlay platform ("the Service"), you ("User") agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy.
If you are registering on behalf of a school, organisation, or company, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that entity to these Terms.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service.
UbuntuPlay is a dual-tier educational platform operated by Zipangile, a company registered in Zambia. The platform consists of:
Schools register through the Organisation Portal or by purchasing a licence. The head teacher or designated administrator is responsible for all activity under the school's account and for ensuring that staff and students use the platform in accordance with these Terms.
Organisations (NGOs, government bodies, private education groups) may apply for an Organisation account to manage multiple schools. Organisation account holders are responsible for the accounts and activity of all managed schools.
Developers may register via the Developer Portal. Developer accounts require email verification. You must provide accurate information and maintain current contact and payment details. You are responsible for all content published under your account.
Parents and guardians may register for a Parent Portal account using an email address and password. Parent accounts are personal and may not be shared. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at security@zipangile.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
Access to the full UbuntuPlay Classroom Server beyond the Free Trial requires a valid school licence. Licences are:
| Plan | Price (ZMW/yr) | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Community Free | K0 | Limited features, community support |
| Founding School | K500 | Full school licence — founding partner pricing |
| Direct Licensing | K1,500 | Standard school licence + Game Builder |
| Organisation Direct | K7,500 | Up to 5 managed schools |
| NGO Pilot | K75,000 | NGO deployment, pilot programme |
| NGO Programme | K180,000 | NGO programme-wide deployment |
| NGO Provincial | K350,000 | Province-wide NGO deployment |
| Corporate CSR plans | From K150,000 | Corporate social responsibility tiers |
| School Group | K280–180/school | School chains, banded per-school pricing |
| District Bulk | K15/learner/term | District-wide, per-learner pricing |
| National Programme | Negotiated | National-scale deployment |
The following tiers are no longer sold or advertised. Schools holding an active licence on a legacy plan keep their plan and pricing until they choose to change plans; legacy licence keys remain valid.
| Plan | Price (ZMW/yr) | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Community School (Legacy) | K100 | Small community school |
| Growth (Legacy) | K200 | Growing school |
| Private School (Legacy) | K350 | Private/independent school |
Prices are in Zambian Kwacha (ZMW) and are subject to change. Schools on active licences are notified of price changes before their next renewal. A 17% discount applies to 3-year prepaid licences.
You may not: sublicence, resell, or transfer your licence to another school; reverse engineer the licensing system; or attempt to forge or modify licence keys. Violation of these restrictions will result in immediate licence revocation without refund.
The Classroom Server can be used in Free Trial mode without a paid licence. Free Trial mode provides:
There is no time limit on the Free Trial. However, certain features — including the Game Builder, Hub registration, impact reports, and marketplace access — require a paid licence.
No auto-renewal: UbuntuPlay does not use automatic recurring billing. All licence payments are one-time transactions. You will receive a notification before your licence expires and must manually renew.
All payments are processed by Flutterwave, a PCI-compliant payment processor. We accept card payments, mobile money (MTN, Airtel, Zamtel), and bank transfers in Zambian Kwacha (ZMW). Zipangile does not store card numbers or bank account details.
Licence fees are generally non-refundable. If you believe you have been charged in error, contact billing@zipangile.com within 14 days of payment. We will investigate and, if appropriate, issue a credit or refund at our discretion.
We reserve the right to change our pricing at any time. Active licences are not affected during their validity period. Schools on annual plans will be notified at least 60 days before a price increase takes effect on renewal.
Prices quoted are exclusive of applicable taxes. You are responsible for any value-added tax (VAT) or other applicable taxes in your jurisdiction.
The Parent Portal offers three subscription tiers:
| Plan | Monthly (ZMW) | Termly (ZMW) | Annual (ZMW) | Children |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Family Free | K0 | K0 | K0 | 1 child, 7-day history |
| Family Plus | K45 | K120 | K420 | Up to 4 children, unlimited history |
| Family Premium | K95 | K260 | K900 | Up to 8 children, full features |
Termly billing covers 90 days, aligned to Zambia's 3-term school year. No automatic renewal applies — you must manually renew when your subscription expires. Your plan downgrades to Family Free after expiry.
Family Plus includes: progress reports, CSV export, weekly digest emails (opt-out), AI study plans, report cards, screen-time goals, School Sync, and 15% off marketplace games.
Family Premium includes all Family Plus features plus: active screen-time caps and schedules, Gogo AI tutor chat, guardian invites, advanced analytics (streaks, heatmaps), offline reports, priority support, and 25% off marketplace games.
The School Sync feature (Family Plus and Premium) allows parents to request a link to their child's school record. This requires explicit approval by the child's teacher. Schools retain full control over what data is shared. Parents and teachers can revoke the link at any time.
Family Premium subscribers may configure play-time limits and schedules for their children. These controls affect access to games served through the UbuntuPlay platform only — they do not affect other applications or internet access. Zipangile is not liable for content accessed outside the UbuntuPlay platform.
Registered developers may publish educational games and plugins to the UbuntuPlay Marketplace. By publishing content, you agree to the following:
For paid marketplace items, the developer receives 70% of net revenue and Zipangile retains 30%. Payouts are processed via the payout method registered in your Developer Portal account. Minimum payout threshold and schedule are as specified in the portal.
All published content must comply with the Acceptable Use Policy. Zipangile reviews and approves all content before publication. We reserve the right to reject, suspend, or remove any content that violates our standards or applicable law.
All game packages must include a valid manifest signed with your developer key. Manifests must accurately describe the game's content, subject area, grade level, language support, and AI usage. False or misleading manifests may result in account suspension.
You retain ownership of your content. By publishing to the Marketplace, you grant Zipangile a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, distribute, and promote your content through the UbuntuPlay platform. You represent and warrant that you own or have the right to use all elements of your content.
If your developer account is terminated for breach of these Terms, all published content will be removed from the Marketplace. Any unpaid revenue accrued before termination will be paid out after a 30-day review period, subject to any outstanding penalties or claims.
UbuntuPlay includes AI-powered features through the Gogo AI tutor and Game Builder. By using these features, you acknowledge and agree to the following:
You agree to use the platform only for lawful purposes and in accordance with our Acceptable Use Policy. You must not:
Violations may result in immediate account suspension or termination without refund.
The UbuntuPlay platform — including the Classroom Server, Hub, all official games (Assegai, Chenjela, Madzi, Mankwala, Nzelu, Rangi), the Game Builder, the Gogo AI Bridge, all source code, algorithms, UI designs, brand assets, and documentation — is the exclusive intellectual property of Zipangile, protected by copyright and other applicable intellectual property laws.
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the platform for its intended educational purposes in accordance with these Terms. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any Zipangile intellectual property to you.
You may not: copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the platform software; reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code from the platform (except where permitted by law); use Zipangile's brand assets without written permission.
Your use of the platform is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
Schools are responsible for:
Zipangile will process personal data in accordance with the Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law. Zipangile acts as data processor for school-side student data (which remains on the local device) and as data controller for Hub-side registration and billing data.
THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
Zipangile does not warrant that:
The platform is designed for educational purposes in schools. Use in medical, safety-critical, or high-stakes assessment contexts (without independent verification) is at the user's own risk.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ZIPANGILE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM OR THESE TERMS.
In no event shall Zipangile's total liability to you for all claims arising from or related to these Terms or the platform exceed the greater of: (a) the total fees paid by you to Zipangile in the 12 months preceding the claim; or (b) ZMW 500.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by applicable law.
You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us at support@zipangile.com. Termination of a school account does not invalidate a currently active licence key — it continues to function offline until its expiry date. Termination of a parent account removes all associated child profiles and progress data within 30 days.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe that:
Where possible, we will give reasonable advance notice (minimum 30 days) before terminating a school licence for non-breach reasons. In cases of material breach or security risk, suspension may be immediate.
Upon termination, your right to use the platform ceases. Data exported before termination remains yours. We have no obligation to retain your data after 30 days following termination.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Zambia, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the platform that cannot be resolved informally shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Zambia.
Before initiating formal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us at legal@zipangile.com to attempt to resolve any dispute informally. We aim to respond to all legal enquiries within 14 business days.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:
Continued use of the platform after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the platform and contact us to close your account.
