1. Purpose & Scope
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") applies to all users of the UbuntuPlay platform, including schools, organisations, teachers, students (through their schools), parents, developers, and any other person who accesses or uses any part of the platform.
This AUP is incorporated into and forms part of the Terms of Service. By using the platform, you agree to comply with this AUP.
The goal of this policy is to ensure that UbuntuPlay remains a safe, inclusive, and educationally valuable platform for every school and learner we serve — particularly in communities where it may be the primary or only access to quality digital education.
2. Schools & Organisations
Schools and organisations that use UbuntuPlay are responsible for:
Administrative Responsibilities
- Designating a responsible administrator (typically the head teacher) to manage the school's UbuntuPlay account and licence
- Ensuring only authorised staff access the Teacher Dashboard and administrative features
- Maintaining secure credentials for the school's Hub account
- Reporting any suspected security incidents or unauthorised access promptly to security@zipangile.com
Student Supervision
- Ensuring students use the platform under appropriate adult supervision
- Not allowing students unsupervised access to AI features that could generate unexpected or inappropriate content
- Reviewing AI-generated content (quiz questions, lessons) before deploying it to students
Data Responsibilities
- Obtaining any parental or guardian consents required by Zambian law or your school's data governance policy before enrolling students and collecting their learning data
- Implementing appropriate data governance policies for student data stored on the local Classroom Server
- Not using student data for purposes other than the direct educational benefit of those students
Technical Use
- Only running the Classroom Server on devices managed and controlled by the school
- Not modifying the Classroom Server software in ways that circumvent security, licensing, or data protection features
- Keeping the Classroom Server reasonably up to date by downloading updates when available
3. Student Safeguarding
UbuntuPlay serves learners of all ages, including young children. Child safety is our highest priority. Schools bear primary responsibility for student safeguarding when using the platform on-site.
Schools must ensure:
- Students only access age-appropriate games and content for their grade level
- The Gogo AI tutor is used under teacher guidance and is not left unsupervised with young children
- Student personal information (names, photos, home details) is not entered into AI prompts or shared chat fields
- Any safeguarding concerns arising from platform use are reported through the school's normal safeguarding procedures, and if relevant to platform content, reported to trust@zipangile.com
If a school becomes aware that AI-generated content has produced anything harmful or inappropriate in a student context, they must report it immediately to Zipangile so we can update our content filters.
4. Developers & Publishers
Developers who register with the Developer Portal and publish content to the UbuntuPlay Marketplace agree to the following standards:
Accuracy & Honesty
- Game and plugin manifests must accurately describe the content, intended age range, subject area, curriculum alignment, supported languages, and any AI usage
- Screenshots and descriptions must reflect the actual product
- You must disclose any data collection your game performs (beyond the platform's standard analytics)
Educational Quality
- Content must have genuine educational value appropriate to the stated age range and grade level
- Games must be fully functional and tested before submission — incomplete or broken submissions will be rejected
- Educational content must be factually accurate — if content is opinion or perspective, it must be clearly labelled as such
- Content related to health, medicine, or science must be reviewed against current scientific consensus
Updates & Maintenance
- Developers are responsible for maintaining published content and releasing updates to fix bugs or outdated information
- If you discover a serious error in published content (factual, technical, or safety-related), you must update or retract the content promptly
- Abandoned content that has not been updated for 24 months may be delisted from the marketplace at Zipangile's discretion
Intellectual Property
- You must own or have explicit rights to all assets in your submission — images, audio, fonts, code, and text
- You must not use copyrighted assets without a licence that permits use in a commercial educational product
- You must not plagiarise or copy content from other UbuntuPlay games or from third parties without attribution
5. Content Standards
All content published on the UbuntuPlay Marketplace must meet the following standards:
Inclusive & Respectful
- Content must be inclusive and respectful of all ethnic, religious, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds represented in Zambian and African schools
- Content must not stereotype, demean, or marginalise any group
- Content should, where appropriate, reflect African history, cultures, and contexts
- Language options should, where possible, include at least one Zambian language (Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga, or Lozi)
Age Appropriateness
- Content rated for younger learners (Grades 1–4) must be free of violence, frightening imagery, and adult themes
- Content rated for older learners (Grades 5–12) may address more complex historical, social, and scientific topics, but must remain educationally framed
- Content that is not suitable for minors must not be submitted to the marketplace
Curriculum Alignment
- Content should align with the Zambian school curriculum (ECZ) where applicable, or clearly indicate if it follows an alternative curriculum framework
- Game mechanics should reinforce rather than distract from the stated learning objective
6. Prohibited Content
Submissions containing prohibited content will be rejected immediately. Existing content found to violate these prohibitions will be removed without refund of fees paid. Serious violations may result in account termination.
The following content is strictly prohibited anywhere on the UbuntuPlay platform:
Child Safety
- Any content that sexualises, exploits, or harms children in any way
- Any mechanism that facilitates direct communication between students and unknown adults
- Any collection of student personal information beyond what is strictly necessary for the game's educational function
Harmful & Illegal Content
- Content that promotes, glorifies, or instructs in violence, self-harm, or illegal activity
- Content that incites hatred based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, or other protected characteristics
- Spam, scams, or fraudulent content
- Content that violates any applicable Zambian law
Technical Prohibitions
- Malicious code, malware, spyware, or any software designed to harm devices or steal data
- Code that attempts to exfiltrate student data to external servers
- Code that interferes with the UbuntuPlay platform's security, licensing, or data protection mechanisms
- Hidden functionality not described in the manifest
- External API calls that transmit student data or usage information to third-party services without explicit disclosure and consent
Commercial Prohibitions
- In-game advertising or sponsored content without prior written approval from Zipangile
- Loot boxes, gambling mechanics, or randomised paid rewards targeted at children
- Upsells or purchase prompts within games aimed at students
7. AI Feature Guidelines
UbuntuPlay includes powerful AI features — the Gogo AI tutor, AI-assisted Game Builder, and Zambian language translation. The following guidelines apply to all AI use on the platform:
For Schools & Teachers
- Review AI-generated content before deploying it to students. AI can produce factual errors, culturally inappropriate responses, or age-inappropriate language.
- Do not enter personal student information into AI prompts — student names, home addresses, medical details, or any other PII should not be included in chat messages or game generation prompts.
- Treat the Gogo AI tutor as a helpful teaching assistant, not an authoritative academic source. Encourage students to think critically about AI responses.
- If the AI produces a response you believe is harmful, incorrect, or inappropriate, report it to trust@zipangile.com with context so we can improve the content filters.
For Developers
- If your game uses the Gogo AI Bridge, you must disclose this in your manifest under the
aiFeatures field
- AI features in games must not make external API calls to third-party AI services — all AI must run locally via the Gogo Bridge or the teacher's browser WASM model
- You may not train or fine-tune AI models on student data collected through the platform
- AI-generated in-game content must be clearly labelled as AI-generated where it could be mistaken for curated educational content
Content Moderation
The Gogo Bridge includes built-in safeguards against generating harmful content. However, no automated system is perfect. Zipangile continuously reviews and updates content moderation as needed. Schools are the last line of defence and must exercise teacher judgment in all AI-assisted activities.
8. Security & Platform Integrity
Users must not:
- Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Hub, Classroom Server, or any associated infrastructure
- Attempt to bypass, disable, or circumvent any security feature, rate limit, or access control
- Submit artificially inflated usage statistics or manipulate analytics data
- Share, transfer, or sell licence keys
- Conduct denial-of-service attacks against the Hub or any school's Classroom Server
- Intercept or monitor other users' network traffic
Responsible disclosure: If you discover a genuine security vulnerability in the UbuntuPlay platform, please report it responsibly to security@zipangile.com before public disclosure. We appreciate security researchers who act in good faith and will work with you to address reported issues.
9. Reporting Violations
If you become aware of a violation of this AUP — including harmful content in the marketplace, student safeguarding concerns, or platform abuse — please report it immediately:
We treat all reports seriously and aim to acknowledge reports within 24 hours for urgent matters and 5 business days for non-urgent reports. All reports are investigated confidentially.
For child safety matters of an immediately criminal nature, you should also report to the relevant Zambian authorities (Zambia Police Service, Zambia Child Development Agency) and/or INTERPOL's Internet Crime Complaint Center as appropriate.
10. Consequences of Violation
Depending on the severity and nature of a violation, Zipangile may take one or more of the following actions:
- Warning: A formal notice is issued to the account holder identifying the violation and the required corrective action.
- Content removal: Offending content is removed from the marketplace or platform immediately, without prior notice for serious violations.
- Feature restriction: Specific platform features (e.g., AI access, marketplace publishing) are suspended pending investigation.
- Account suspension: The account is temporarily suspended while an investigation is conducted.
- Account termination: The account is permanently terminated. No refund of licence or subscription fees is provided for terminations due to AUP violations.
- Legal action: For serious violations — including child exploitation, data theft, or malicious code — Zipangile may pursue civil or criminal action and cooperate with law enforcement.
Zipangile exercises these measures at its sole discretion and in proportion to the severity of the violation. We aim to be fair and communicate clearly with account holders during any investigation.
